Hola Amigo,

Right now, it's not really in the scope of things we're
focused on. We have done some thinking around this area, but
nothing concrete as we're not sure of the use-cases. I'm curious as
to the case you've got in mind - Are you looking for call control,
full media transcoding, anything else?

thanks - input is always important to us!

Hello Nigel,

This is what I have in mind ...

We developed an ERP-system with following configuration:

* SQL server

* ASP.NET C# webservices (Windows server)

* Flex user interface

This is used in some companies which also have a linux
asterisk phone system with VOIP-phones.

They also have offices on other locations and tele-workers.
These can use the flex interface through a simple internet browser
connection but it is more difficult to also give them a physical
phone.

Wouldn't it be great to have a softphone within our flex
interface which communicates with the phone server so teleworkers
have everything within one interface and can start working as soon
as they have the weblink to the system... ?! So they would be able
to make calls to there collegeus physical and/or soft phone and
also be able to make calls to real calls to clients.

In short: I want to make a Skype with Flex :winking_face:

Best regards,

Frank

You should take a look at Ribbit. They've got a free SDK that
provides Flex-to-POTS integration. Their components plus Cocomo
might provide exactly what you're looking for. Adobe was also
working on a project code-named Pacifica that was heading in a
similar direction. Not sure of the status of that though.

Interesting company Ribbit- they are working with google applications -"Ribbit is a fully programmable communications platform that allows web developers to integrate telephony and messaging capabilities into any workflow or application. Combining  Ribbit with Google Wave means real-time, asynchronous audio streams can now be inserted into any Wave." .  Still would be interesting in learning about the Adobe Pacifica project....

Hi Leonard,

  I was interested in doing something similar, and used Ribbit Flex SDK  to make calls directly from my Flash app to a phone.  It worked OK (although connecting the call was rather slow), but if the Flash app user did not wear a headset then the person on the phone would have an echo (as the sound from my laptop speakers was being fed back into the mic).  This is because the Flash Player does not have Advanced Echo Cancellation built in (Skype, Adobe Connect and others have AEC built in).

  If you'd like to vote for AEC to be built into Flash Player, the Adobe Bug is written up here (currently has 161 votes, open over a year but no comment from Adobe).  This is a shame, as I think with AEC lots of people could write some killer apps that used the Flash Player.

thanks

Hi Nigel,

I'm interested in this as well. A use-case would be to be able to dial in to an online meeting if you don't have access to a computer.

Cheers,
