ES4 dies after splash screen

Recently was forced into a system restore situation.  System is now back up except ES4.  When I attempt to run ES4 the splash screen will come up and then disappear.  Watching the process come on line, the formdesign.exe (I think that is the name) comes up then disappears.

Steps taken:

Have attempted to repair.  States repair was successful but no joy.

Have attempted uninstall/install.  Installation is not successful. Error msg - expected file cannot be found (approximate wording)

Downloaded a fresh zip download file.  Same results.

Have installed the sp1.  Successfully but the program still dies on load.

Have looked at AEM forms but not interested in cloud based program at this time. 

Anyone have any ideas?

Are you able to try installing in a non-default folder? If i have to reinstall something 'fresh' i try a different folder name.

Did you get any messages in the Windows event log?

Might be worth trying to uninstall the Microsoft Visual C++ Redisributable (one of Designers dependencies) before a reinstall

What is the exact error you get when uninstalling Designer?

I had the same problem with ES4 on Windows 10 with Acrobat DC. I had to go back and install Acrobat XI to get it to work.
