Dynamically populate fields when filling up a form

Hi,

How to populate the fields eg. Name dynamically when filling up a form? I have tried the preview form properties where it is linked to an xml file. Only when I use the preview mode the data are able to auto populated. When I opened the adobe file(.pdf) directly, the fields are not auto populated. Any advise?

Thanks.

You will have to import the data file that you want to merge onto the template. In Acrobat under the Forms/Manage Forms Data/Import Data a wizard will allow you to choos ethe file to import. Once you choose your xml file then the binding will occur.

I tried to change the data file that is binded but it does not reflect the changes when I opened up the pdf form.

Is this the right behaviour?

After you open the PDF are you importing the data file? If you point to the data file in the preview does the form get populated? If so that tells me that the binding is OK.

Only when I go Forms->Manage Form Data->import data and select the xml file, the form will then be auto-populated.

When I edit the xml file like adding field input, the form is not automatically populated with the updates when opened.

I need to import data and select the updated xml file then the changes is updated in the form.

Can the form fields get auto-populated with session or request objects? For example, I retrieved the name, company name etc in the http request objects

and populated the adobe form when user tried to open the form. Please advise, thanks.

This is not exactly like your question, but if you search the forum for 'pre-populate' or auto-populate' or similar keywords, you may find an answer to your question.

I think we all ask the same question - by different people at different times, and so many of the questions have already beed addressed.

Sefan Cameron has created a great blog on this topic. There are other great topics that he covers up there too.
