I'm a super noob when it comes to anything past the basics of Livecycle Designer. I was told by a colleague I had to get Livecycle Rights Management but I want to verify that I do actually need it. Here is my senario:
I run a 50+ agent real estate office. I've made proprietary PDF forms using LiveCycle Designer to help standardize and improve transaction accurancy. My agents get a copy of the forms saved to their computers/laptops. They fill them out, print, and place the hardcopies in our transaction files.
My concerns: I've invested a lot of time and money in developing these PDF forums; if an agent decides to move to another broker
they will take the forms with them.
My wish: If an agent decides to leave, I want the forms to be "disabled" or "deleted."
I was told I would need RM for this. Questions:

It is correct that you require RM to solve your problem.It's not necessary to have a third party vendor.
You can host it on your existiong server where your application is running.
So I contacted one of Adobe's LC vendors and the quote it quite shocking. $100k setup and $20-40k per year maintenance for up-to 500 users! Is that right? Seems steep. Alternatives?

It's maintenace you can do on your own not difficut. so ask them pricing without mentinance and negotiate that.
Hi we are an Aodbe solutions partner, Here are a few answers and suggestions.
1. If you want to to get info about LiveCycle, you need to work with an Aodbe Pantner, not Aodbe Directly, your company is too small and and not in the banking or a government business so Adobe slaes team is just going to pass you off to a partner.
2. LiveCycle Rights Management is sold by the Receipent, minimum license is Qty 100 Receipents, which is $165.00 per recepient => $16,500.00 for 100 users
3. It sounds like you are uging the Reader Extension function to allow the users to fill a forms and save locally. To do this you need to own 1 Acrobat Pro license and this gives you a license to allow up to 500 users to use the forms you design, these must be named users (i.e. you know each and every user, typically this means they are an employee or customer and they are set up in your LDAP or in LC RM. This Acrobat license does not provide the automated connectivity to applications, databases, web services which are used to automate the transfer of data in and out of the form with your applications, so you are going to be limited to users filling in the form, saving, printing or emaiing them to you our another receipents. To get the automation for application and database connectivity you would have to buy LC Forms which is $325 per user, min 100 users, => $32,500 or $85,000 per CPU. Your best bet would be the user priced version. If you go this way you need to have your IT guy trained an plan to spend $10 to $15 K for training plus $4 to $8K for installl help, unless your novice IT guy is really good.
4. LiveCycle is a very powerful spftware package, it is hard to say if your novice IT person could set up an configure RM on your server, but considering your size this would be your lowest cost alternative. You may want to hire an LC specialist to help your IT guy. I think minimum 2 days of assistance and mind melding with with your IT guy. Most LC Partner are going to charge $150 to $300 an hour to provide the level of help you need. Don't assume lower price is better, it typcally means you will be buying more hours. You get what you pay for when it comes to complex software installation, implenetation and training.
LiveCycle is powerful and the licene prices and consulting prices almost always have a resonable ROI. Adobe and other comapnies would not be in this business if compnies could not realize an ROI for using it. With 50 people using these forms the User Based license should provide you a reasonable ROI. Your teams time is money, so saving them time giving them reuseable forms, forms that auto-populate with client and system data will create a strong pay-back. By the way several Real Estate Associates already use Adobe and offer per realtor access if you are a member. I am not sure what the cost is for this.
Last but not least, Adobe and other companies are serious about software piracy, if you were to get caught using a license you do not own it will cost you at minimum the full list price, not to mention the potentail hasles and legal fees.
