Hello,
I am trying to add a new paper type to my designer.xdc file. The name of the paper type is: 2011abcd, short="8.5in" long="14in". When open LiveCycle Designer Version 9.0, I try to change my master page to the new paper type. When I click on the drop down, I see *2011adbc in the list (with an asterisk).
I then attempt to test this form out in OutputIVS by ensuring that the ps_plain.xdc also includes the same media definition. The resulting postscript file does not contain the paper type name anywhere (viewing search within the postscript file). Basically, I need the resulting postscript file to include the paper type so that our network printer knows which tray the special paper is stored in.
Does the asterisk mean anything in designer?
Has anyone else got this working?
Thanks,
Terry

I spoke to someone who is more knowledgable about this area and here is their reply:
It works by mapping between the Paper Type in Designer and the designer.XDC and the printer XDC I don’t know about the * he is seeing - but it perhaps suggests a syntax error in the designer.xdc update he made?
If he adds a new media type correctly in designer.xdc He then adds the same media type in ps_plain.xdc (or a copy of it preferably); in there he is mapping to physical media on the printer In Designer he needs to set his Paper Type to the new media name he created .
So notionally in the designer XDC he declares a new media "LegalMine"
In the ps_plain.xdc he effectively says "LegalMine" = <tray number|tray name> which in his case seems to be "2011adbc"
In his form he sets his page to be "LegalMine"
Presumably his printer has a tray with a media name of "2011adbc"
- although he does not mention that and so that may be the source of problem / confusion
- He may be assuming some magic
Sorry I don’t have the syntax but it is documented here or close to here http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/9.0/workbenchHelp/help.htm?content=001150.html
Hope that helps

Hello Paul,
Thank you for looking into this for me. Is it possible to email you my designer.xdc file for you to test out?

Hi Paul,
I am facing a similar issue.
I am editting the file in an XML Editor, still I get a * before the name in the designer. Which seems to be wrong.
Could you please let me know how to change the designer.xdc file.
Regards
Neha

This is the problem of editor. You can try Note++(Open Source) or Editplus.
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I tried the editors specified by you ( Notepad++ and Editplus) and a few others, but I am still getting the * before the type name.
Could you please guide me on how to do it correctly.
