changing presence in runtime

Hi Guys

I need ur help,is that allowable to change presence from invisible to visible in runtime if the field set to invisible in the designing(object->field->prescence)???

the following code doesnt work with me neither in formcalc nor JavaScript

field.presence=''visible'';

the field doesnt appear
