Change an Object's Value Type from Task to Task

Is there a way for an object's Value Type to change from task to task?

I want to make certain objects User Entered - Optional for the initial user, and then

User Entered - Required when the form is assigned to the next user.

I'm using Designer ES4 and Workbench ES4.

Create separate XDPs and use the fields' object palettes to configure the properties as needed for each WorkBench step.

As long as data binding is not altered, the same data connection can be use for each XDP
