Cannot freely move objects in Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES4

I created a form with expandable text fields and drop-down menus (it's a performance review form for employees) and need to make some layout changes to it, however when I try to move objects they either don't move at all or snap to another position far from what I was trying to do. The first page is fine (and contains a positioned subform) but none of the others work as they did when I first assembled the form.

All I need to do is move a series of text fields to the right to indent them, and none of them want to go there. I'm able to edit their appearance but that's it.

I am new to Adobe Livecycle (less than a week), and I'm at my end with this program and its counter-intuitive and cumbersome functionality (I've used other Adobe products on a Mac for 15 years as a graphic designer and have never had this sort of trouble). Any help would be appreciated. I urgently need to complete this project, and as of now it looks like I'll be recreating it from scratch.

Check that the Subforms are not set to flowed

They are, but when I set them back to positioned, all the text stacks up together. It just makes no sense. I found if I create groups the objects don't move as much, but if I miss the positioning of one object and have to tweak it, and thus switch the subform back to positioned, it all gets jumbled up again.

Can you share your form so we can have a look

I seemed to have found a workaround by starting from scratch, and creating groups containing each respective question, drop-down menu, and expandable text field. To add space between sections, I created an empty text box and added that to the group above it (so the objects below wouldn't snap up to the others). It seems like there should be a better way that isn't so haphazard. I can't wrap my head around the behavior of this application.
