Dear all,

Now i create one adobe form with one button on it which will link to one web service via WSDL and get the response.

It works fine in my laptop since i install Acrobat PRO, but it doesn't work in another PC which only install basis adobe reader.

i check below posts, Srini mentioned it required  Reader Extensions server component. but i have no idea about Reader Extensions server component. Now the PDF is extensioned, so the save fuction is ok.

Also, I wonder if it possible to achieve below scenario.

     1. the responsible people create the PDF form, reader extension it and then send it to users.

     2. Users use Basis Adobe Reader to fill the information and click button to call the web service

Could anyone share some experience? any tips will be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

You have to contact Abobe or Datalogics:

http://www.adobe.com/sea/products/server/readerextensions/

http://www.datalogics.com/products/pdfjt/

It is server-based software and the price depends on how you intend to use it. It is not inexpensive.

Hi Johnson,

Does that mean I need to purchase "Adobe PDF Java Toolkit"?

It is Java Toolkit, do i need to build the Java framework for it?

Thanks

Hi Johnson,

If i want to distribute the PDF to other users who can click the button in the PDF, what should I do? could you pls give me some guidline? Assume that I just get the original PDF.

Thanks.

If the file is enabled, it should work with Reader, so there's nothing else you need to do.

Since this thread is pretty long at this point, and I've blogged on this topic in the past, let me restate the problem and then give the solution(s) and why you're seeing the failures that you are.

Problem statement:

You want to distribute a form to users and have them send the results back to the server by calling a web service, rather than the typ[ical HTTP post or mailto:

You don't state, and therefore I assume are not concerned about, people saving the form locally.

The solution:

Use of webservices in Reader requires a right called FormsOnline, which I refer to as right #11.  As you can see from my blog at http://blogs.datalogics.com/2012/11/26/does-adobe-reader-xi-change-reader-extensions-usefulness , this right is ONLY enabled by a LiveCycle Reader Extensions server or other software that uses a LiveCycle Reader Extensions Credential, such as the Adobe PDF Java Toolkit with Reader Extensions http://datalogics.com/products/pdfjt/ .

Why you are seeing these failures:

Reader-extended the file in Acrobat only does basic rights... 1-4, 6-8.  It does not include barcodes, spawning pages, or form online (which is defined in the blog post as well).  Bibhu erred when he viewed all reader-extensions as the same thing... there are different rights.  I plan to do a new post at Datalogics about the ways to reader-extend that should help these questions a bit... it's about 1/2 written now and this thread pushed it up my list.

I can't explain differences between the trial version and reader, as pointed out in #15 of the thread.

I'll also note that the 500 user limit is strictly a licensing issue.  There is no enforcement of this, so it is a red herring in this discussion.

Datalogics can provide you evaluation copies of the PDFJT and their standalone utility that let's you reader-extend.   Take a look at other recent posts by me at Datalogics http://blogs.datalogics.com/author/charlesmyers4/ (I've started a series on barcoded forms, which share the same issue of the rights only enabled by a LiveCycle Reader Extensions credential and not by Acrobat's reader-enablement).

Hey Charles,

Sorry for misunderstanding the difference between Acrobat Reader Extension and LiveCycle ReaderExtension. Actually there was no such proper documentation to explain this before you post these links. Thanks a lot.

Thanks,

Bibhu.
