** Forms Emailing Help **

Here's the deal...



I'm trying to create a form with Adobe Livecycle, which I managed to do. I put in a email submit button which works but does anyone know how to make it so that the form gets sent to the inputted email address directly without having the the submit button open up a default email program?



Right now I'm working on a simple job application online for a company I work for and everything works fine with the fillable application but I feel it would be much more efficient if there was a way for the form to get sent automatically.



I know how to do this using basic html forms, where you have a form on a web page and the user fills out the form, hits the submit button and the form gets sent to the designated email address and a custom page shows up showing that the form has been sent. The user doesn't have to send the email manually or anything.



I was wondering if there was anyway to do this with fillable pdf forms using Adobe Livecycle.

The way to do this is to forget e-mail - which is a toy for test

purposes in my opinion - and submit to a web site, just like every

other form on a web site does.



Countless millions of people can't send e-mail at all - do you want to

block them out from sending an application?

Well we have the option of printing out the filled application.

So, users can use either one.



The HR doesn't really care if some people can't use email/computers at all, since those applicants wouldn't be right for this company.

I think you misunderstand. This isn't about people being un-technical.

This is about people making the deliberate choice not to have an

e-mail program on their computer. Millions upon millions of people use

gmail, yahoo, hotmail or some other web-based e-mail service. There is

no e-mail client to run in this case, so the form can't be e-mailed.



There are worse possibilities too. In some cases a form could end up

in a user's outbox, never sent, with no error and no feedback.



Really, e-mail is not an acceptable way to submit anything of

commercial or personal importance. If you can't put the resources

into a web submission, I recommend the print-and-return route only.

I understand your concerns about email. Can you elaborate on what you mean by "web sumbmission" and how one goes about this?

Thats the whoooole reason I'm on this forum asking this....asking if there is anyway to make a form like an html form where someone doesn't need a email program. And if I can't find a way then I won't put a submit button up.

The company wants people to submit online so I'll have to find another way than using Adobe Livecycle. Probably have to make the form from scratch.

Sure. That's the normal and recommended way to work.



What happens with an HTML form - any HTML form, whether it's a forum

page, a google search page, or a page in the Amazon store (etc.) sends

information to a "script", which is a program on the web server. A web

programmer creates scripts, using systems with names like ASP, CGI,

PHP, and these scripts do whatever that web site needs to happen.



What happens with a PDF form is much the same thing. In fact, PDF

files can submit their fields in HTML form, so you can often use

exactly the same scripts, though this loses you flexibility.

Select the button icon under insert custom. You will see that you can change the wording to submit by email. Change it and then look to the left where you will see three selections of submit, execute and regular. Choose submit and click on the tab at the top. Type in your email address and select submit PDF in the white square underneath where you typed in your email address.



This will allow you to send the PDF by email.
