Sure. That's the normal and recommended way to work.
What happens with an HTML form - any HTML form, whether it's a forum
page, a google search page, or a page in the Amazon store (etc.) sends
information to a "script", which is a program on the web server. A web
programmer creates scripts, using systems with names like ASP, CGI,
PHP, and these scripts do whatever that web site needs to happen.
What happens with a PDF form is much the same thing. In fact, PDF
files can submit their fields in HTML form, so you can often use
exactly the same scripts, though this loses you flexibility.
