CreatePDF from MSWord using Admin UI : Need Consistency

Avatar

Level 3
Hello I want to use PDF-G in a process to create PDF from MSWord documents.

I'm using JBoss turnkey/LiveCycle 8.2 with SP1 on XP and Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro extended(Trial version).

Using PDF-G in Admin is not working reliably for me. I create a simple word document--the content is a one page document with content

of "Hello World". Next use the PDF-G in admin console to convert

the hello word document to PDF.

What is befuddling is that sometimes the process works and sometimes it does not work(conversion timeout) I have tried changing the timeout on the UI screen from 270 to 500; however that does not solve the problem. What is puzzling is why does it work during and then shortly thereafter it does not work.

Any insight is appreciated(sample output below)

Launch Acrobat 9 Pro Extended. See if it throws any dialog boxes at you regarding registration, expiry etc.

Then do the conversion from Microsoft Word several times. See if any of these gives you trouble.

Hello Jayan,

When I launch Acrobat 9 pro extended I do get a dialog...right now it says I have 27 more days on my trial version(Acrobat 9). Then I click the next button and I'm able to create PDF from Word documents without any problems. Do you think that the trial version of Acrobat 9 is not compatible with LiveCycle. I thought that might be the problem but the documentation for LiveCycle 8.2 seems to say LiveCycle 8.2 should work with Acrobat 9 trial--maybe that is not case.

Jesse

The trial version is fine. However, the kind of weirdness you are seeing usually occurs when Acrobat puts up dialog boxes which PDF Generator does not know how to handle. So the key is to make sure that neither Acrobat nor MS Office applications put up any dialog boxes.

You know, sometimes I get a dialog in Acrobat asking me to improve the "experience". Could that be a cause?

Yes it could ....open Acrabat and dismiss the dialog.

I get that same resiliency log when my DOC -> PDF conversion fails.

Jeese,

I'm encountering the same problem, did you find a solution?

I fixed mine.

For whatever reason, not sure if it was my upgrade from Acrobat 8.1 -> 9.0, but my W2003 environment variable for Acrobat_PATH was not defined. Once I defined that, I was able to successfully create a PDF from DOC multiple times.

Why it was ever to convert a DOC once before crashing, I have no idea.
