Backwards compatibility issue: plain button acts like 'submit' in Reader 7?!

As part of a project we designed a form in LiveCycle Designer ES (8.1). It was tested on Reader v8 and works perfect. At some moment requirements has changed: it should run at least at Reader v7.

So I thought "no problem, just change form's properties". But it appears to be not that easy: Some functionality doesn't act similar between Reader v8 en v7. Most of them are bypassed with workarounds, but still a big issue remains: some (plain) buttons with some (basic) JavaScript are used. These are for adding and removing subform-instances by using the instanceManager. But when adding an instance in Reader7 the button appears to behaves like a 'submit': Reader starts complaining about required fields which are part of the subform. It even complains when the fields actually are filled in!

Does anyone have the same experience (or better: have a solution)?

Kind regards,

Edgar
