Windows update KB2984006 breaks AEM on Windows Server 2012 R2

Environment:

• Windows Server 2012 R2 (64 bit), virtual machine running on VMware Fusion 7.0.1
• AEM 6.0 + SP1 quickstart
• Java 7u71 or 8u25 (Oracle)

Issue:

After installation of Windows Update KB2984006 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2984006), the ImageServer.exe, ImageInfo.exe and ic.exe programs crash when attempting to install or start AEM. Uninstalling KB2984006 fixes the crash.

An example of the event logged when these applications crash:

Are you using dynamic media?  If not disable it will fix the issue.
