Repository Growth in AEM 5.6

I am trying to resolve a peculiar situation where my repository size is growing by 3 GB's every week. I have checked the Tar Optimization, which is working fine.

I have done the data store Garbage collection( which did work but still the size is quite big).

Two questions :

1. Does running the garbage collection deletes the versioning history of the pages?

2. What more steps can I take to reduce the repository size.

Open a ticket, support may have a service pack for this issue.

Look here - that AEM version may be out of date with support -- Unsupported versions of Adobe Experience Manager (AEM)
