AEM - NOOB question

Hi,

I have recently started exploring AEM and I am seeing that even though there is a lot of information in user guides/tutorials, there is information overload. I have worked with Liferay and have fair amount of knowledge in Liferay and am trying to compare features and also build something to get acquainted with the platform.

I saw in one of the forum posts, one of the community member has taken pain to list and group articles, but the links are to an outdated version of the platform.

I have downloaded AEM jar and am able to run as both publish and author modes.

More over couple of Links that I felt good are

1) Getting Started with AEM Sites - WKND Tutorial - Shows how to create site from scratch

2) Adobe Experience Manager Help | Create your first adaptive form - Show how to create adaptive form

But is there a set of links grouped together which shows the most important concepts and tutorials

I found the following link but it is as is said not organized in a logical way

I don't think so there exist any unified documentation covering every aspect of AEM. It is very big solution and have many offerings.

What particularly are you looking for?

What I am looking for is a single stop logical sequence of steps following which I could atleast get 75% of what AEM provides in right context.

Like in Liferay when I follow the step, I get to know initially the platform like how to navigate through site, what is groups, roles adn organization. How to manage users, user groups, roles and permissions, how to create sites, site templates, page templates, pages, portlets, how to use wcm, document management, collaboration features, etc in logical way.

Here lets say if i start creating AEM adaptive for on quick start jar, I see that i cannot even start going to step 2 as there is no template. After lot of search you finally find that you need a form add-on !!!

So is there any correct logical sequence of steps that I need to follow to start understanding the platform. The WKND is great start and I loved it because when I start AEM has taken care to mention all the steps required. But while creating adaptive form, its just assumed that we know that form add on should be installed or we know how to setup database and register the driver.

All of the Sections of the WEEKEND Tutorial are a great place to start. Then it depends on your use case. AEM has a lot of functionality so next steps depend on what you want to do. Are you interested in Workflows, building AEM HTL Components, developing custom services, etc.

Thank you very much. That is indeed very helpful. I am tempted to mark this answer, but just some quesitons. I see that there are various umbrellas. Experience Manager  has "Sites", "Assets", "Dynamic Media", "Forms" and "LiveFyre". Similarly there is an umbrella for Targe, Campaign and so on.

1. Is it safe to assume that WKND is good place to understand the overall concepts of "sites" and similarly the link i earlier shared for adaptive form is what is need to get a gist of "Forms" in entirety
2. I used quickstart jar for going through above two tutorials. Is there a similar link or tutorial for "Assets", Dynamic Media and LiveFyre which makes use of quickstart.jar to make the concept clear. If so can you share the links please if it is available?
3. I believe that the other umbrellas like "Target", "Audience Manager", "Campaign" are separate products. Is there a similar jar for going through these topics? If so can you share the links please if it is available?
4. It has been marketed at various places that all the products AEM, Target, Analytics can work hand in hand. Is there any tutorial for the same?
5. What about roles, user management, authentication and authorization mechanism? Where is it covered?
6. In liferay we have portlets. I believe the synonym for the same in AEM world is components. Am I correct? Is it how we create a custom functionality lets say a SAP component(integration with SAP) in AEM world?
7. What are the best practices for production (right from setup to configuration)

I know you might not be having an answer to it all. But I appreciate whatever information you can provide. Also I promise to update the original question with links of tutorials that I found useful as a NOOB to get started so that it helps other NOOBs like me.

1. Yes, if you want to understand the fair amount of AEM sites implementations, then WKND is the way to go. Other than the adaptive form link that you shared, you can also go through Adobe Experience Manager Help | Getting Started With AEM Forms
2. For AEM Assets, i would recommend you Adobe Experience Manager Help | AEM Assets User Guide and Dynamic media: Working with Dynamic Media
3. Target" and "Audience Manager" are cloud-based there is no Jar for them. And Adobe camping comes in 2 variations: a. Campaign Classic (On-Premise) and Campaign Standard (Cloud-based). You have to reach out to your account manager to get access to these products.

5. For AEM: User, Group and Access Rights Administration, User Administration and Security  and  Managing Users and User Groups
