Merged tags not resolving on site display

Hello Community,

We recently attempted to use the Merge Tag functionality on our 6.2 instance, which appeared to work well for merging one tag into another, except for the part where the tag value did not get rationalized.

Is there another way or step that needs to be taken to fully combine the two tag groups so that tag data from the one that "goes away" is not lost?

That is where I found the method to merge the tags. However, the file does not provide any insight as to why there may result in two duplicate tag options when an author attempts to apply a tag that was merged.

After talking with another team member, we may have learned that the missing step may have been that the tag that was merged into the master "Success stories" tag was not unpublished before the merge.

It is probably missing something, but we are unsure what that is.

It may be the step to unpublish the tag that will be merged, but I am not fully confident that would resolve the tag duplication issue in the selection process. Some testing would need to happen to validate that.
