Extending the default search in Assets section of AEM

My goal here is to integrate third party images when searching for images in AEM Assets.

How can I extend the default search bar to include third party images (getty, istock, etc)?

As you know - AEM does not search for Assets out of the JCR. You need to build a custom solution for this. One path you can take for this is build a custom view - that would appear under tools. Then use a given API in the view to search for images outside of AEM. Look at this custom tool that Lokesh built for Vanity URLs --
