What is AEM Related Asset used for?

Hoping to find answers here. New user of AEM and trying to learn more about this feature.

I'm trying to find examples of use case for this feature. I understand that you can create relationships between assets, source/derived and such but what does the end user see or can do with this feature?

I'm looking for solution to versions of an asset. Replacing a old asset with a new asset because of changes made.

Or...

If 2 assets are related to one another, what is the search result? Will both assets show up when only one is searched?

What about downloading? How does the related assets behave when one is downloaded or used? Will both be used because they are related?

If you already have the instance and license, it would be worth trying hands-on and you will get most of the answers there and then.
