Is there a way to make an visual display that can be activated through scanning a barcode with an USB barcode scanner?

For a school project, we want people to be able to scan a barcode on a product, which wil open a visual display with information about the product on a screen next to it. Is there a way to do this through a Adobe program?

I'm not aware of any Adobe specific product that deals with creating bar codes. With that said, I'd image it would be possible since a barcode is basically just numbers. I'd suggest using a QR code since this use case is done all the time with a QR codes. That way you could use just about any phone or tablet as the scanner.
