Cookies and the Marketing Cloud ID Service

Hi all,

I am referring to the URL Cookies and the Marketing Cloud ID Service  on this subject.

If MCID is implemented as a cookie, it is limited to the machine used for browsing.

What happens if the same user uses a different machine to access the same site?

Since the cookie does not exist on the new machine, will it crate a new MCID and cookie?

In such a case, the very purpose of MCID is defeated.

Appreciate all your responses.

Thanks,

Rama.

Rama,

Yes, MCID is cookie based. While it isn't perfect, it's a major improvement over the legacy solution specific identification.

You can accomplish cross device targeting if the user logs in and you set the Customer ID. Otherwise, you are correct if a user uses two different devices and does not log in, there is no way to know they are the same user. This problem is not unique to Adobe solutions.

Cheers,
Jantzen
