Difference between 'use data from the target and additional data' versus 'use additional data only' in Cell Object

Looking to understand the difference between these filtering settings in a cell object. If I have selected the second option and need to filter data based on a field that wasnt brought into the initial dataset, is filtering using the targeting dimension schema the same as bringing in the field into the initial dataset?

Hello Mabob,

 

The only difference between the first and second options is that the first option also allows filtering from fields brought in from the inbound transition into the activity as well as additional data.
