AAM AMO Integration

Hi all,

What exactly is happening at AAM AMO Integration?

Segments are created in AAM and passed to AMO and AMO uses them for Ad Targeting.

Apart from Segments, is there anything else AMO needs from AAM and AAM passes to AMO?

Let us assume that a segment was passed to AMO.

How does AMO know what content to display for a user belonging to that segment?

Who tells AMO that probably Blue color picture should be displayed for a male of 25 yr old?

Thanks,

Rama.

Rama,

I can provide high-level answers:

Yes, each system has a different visitor ID (this is not referring to the visitor ID service). The ID sync process creates a mapping as you have said on each system.

The reason is that each solution need to be able to work as standalone solutions and with other non-Adobe solutions.

Yes e.g. AMO's visitor ID syncing with AAM's visitor ID (called UUID).

This depends on the use-case and the destination. Most implementations will use automatic.

It is based on IDs, each system has their own ID structure and format.

E.g of mapping by ID sync, for user1: AMO ID: ABC == AAM ID: DEF

If the user1 is part of my shared segment to AMO, AAM could send AAM ID: DEF. AMO will look up previously ID sync'ed data. AMO will then know that user1 is its own AMO ID: ABC.

Yes.

AAM is DMP. Its main role is the segmentation in this use-case. AAM does not activate the segments.

In AMO, targeting audiences (AAM segments) is just one of many options to define the ad to be shown.

Rama,

There is an ID sync that occurs between AAM and AMO.

You can read more about ID syncs here: https://www.pedromonjo.com/2017/04/id-sync/

AMO can display the creative based on the AAM segment targeting. When the AAM segment is shared to AMO, it matches as many AMO users as possible from AAM segment. The number of matches is based off the ID sync.

The segment of males aged 25 would be built in AAM then shared to AMO. When you build your campaign in AMO, you can create sub-structures to target individual AAM segments.

Hi Garrett,

Now only I started understanding the technology, thanks to your prompt reply.

I think answers to the below queries will certainly cement that understanding of mine and I seek your help in answering them.

1. The visitor ID for a specific same visitor is different between AAM and AMO.

When we do ID sync, AAM gets a mapping between them.

Pl confirm.

2. When we refer to ID sync, are we referring to the visitor IDs syncing?

3. IDs syncing could be achieved manually or automatically.

How and where to decide whether it is manual or automatic?

4. During IDs syncing, how do AAM and AMO map visitor IDs between them?

Based on name? name may be the same for two different visitors.

5. All that is passed between AAM and AMO is only Segments correct?

Means the Segment Name + all visitor IDs (AMO's) that qualify for that Segment and nothing else.

6. At the AMO end, what to display for a user of a specific segment is decided by a configuration on AMO?

It is not something that is passed from AAM to AMO.

What is the name of AMO interface where we perform configuration for this?

I highly appreciate your patience and willingness to support.

Thanks,

Rama.
