Recent increase in the Last Touch Internal Channel

Avatar

Over the past month, we've noticed a significant increase in our last touch attribution going to the Internal channel.  Further inspection of the data shows that this is being driven by Safari 14 on mobile devices.

Is anybody else observing this?  Do you know what's going on?

Upon inspecting my URLs via a data warehouse dump, I noticed unexpected query string parameters.  Our IT department turned on a Cloudflare bot protection option that makes some visitors use a captcha to verify that they're human.  I'm not sure why, but it looks like this captcha is tied to Safari 14 about 90% of the time. This also seems to trigger an Internal last touch channel.

Hi @briant94284829

Perhaps there is a new external website that traffic is going through that is only applicable to iPhone.  Something like Apple Pay or a site that is only used with Iphones....

1st question - Is there a reason why you have the Internal Channel set to Override?  (Normal practice would be to have this unchecked, but there are reasons/exceptions)

2nd question - What do you have the Last Touch Detail set for the Internal Channel?  Maybe there is a clue here?
