Custom Link Tracking in New AEM Core Components

Avatar

Hi Folks,

We're prepping to migrate to the new AEM Core components (Component Library) and our Devs are stating that they would like to move away from placing custom link component text on the back end and having to update the Core Components to contain the same fields.

I'm just wondering how everyone else out there handles custom link tracking - do you need to populate every component with unique information about what the component is, what was clicked, etc...?

It seems like tracking the elements that are clicked would be a fairly universal need, but the Core Components are being authored without any custom link tracking - is this something that we should expect to keep as a local attribute to our fork of the library, and just keep merging the updates into any component that gets updated?

Is there another way that we could be capturing specific clicks on items? Eg: which slide was clicked? what tab was clicked? what image was clicked?

Currently we handle that with custom components, and we're wondering if we can migrate away from that.

Thanks for any input you might have!
