topic Classification importer, import via FTP error in Adobe Analytics Questions

Hi - I'm trying to use the classification importer to upload an updated lookup file into R&A. I've downloaded the template and used that to build out my file. Due to the file size, I have to use the FTP importer function instead of the browser. I'm able to connect and upload the appropriate files without a problem (I followed the steps on a previous post about uploading via the FTP method). However, I keep receiving an email that says "Import status, Error: Invalid Classifications". I've checked my conversion classifications and all looks good. Any other ideas of what could be causing this problem?

Thanks,

Tad

Hi Tad,

A few ideas for you.

1) Try to upload a small version of the classification file first via the web browser import. This will allow you to confirm that everything is your template is working.

2) When you uploaded the file via ftp did you upload an empty file with the same name and a .fin file extension right after?

When you upload a classifications or Data Source file (.tab or .txt) the upload also requires that you upload an empty file with the exact same name as the data file being imported, but with a .fin extension. This .fin file is a finish file. The purpose of the file is to tell the system that the data file has been completely uploaded to the FTP account. The .fin file lets Adobe recognize that you are done with your import. - SOURCE DOC

Best,

Ryan Praskievicz

www.ryanpraski.com

Hi Tad

the other thing to check is that you have a space between the Key Row and the first entry.

Cheers

Kristi

Thanks for both of your help. I double checked that I followed what you mentioned and it still wasn't working. I finally realized that when adobe set up the FTP accounts for us, they named them incorrectly and I was trying to upload the conversion version of the report to the traffic ftp account and vise versa. It looks like it's working properly now. Thanks again!
