Are there any new new concepts for the 2017 MCE exam? Will there be an updated Practice Exam in the MCE Prep Toolkit?  I am looking to schedule it soon, any insight would be great.

Hi Jon,

Thanks so much for your questions regarding the MCE 2017 exam.   There will be new topic areas on new exam that will include:

  • Program Fundamental
  • Targeting and Personalization
  • Analytics and Reporting
  • Lead Management
  • Implementation and Operations

We will no longer have  a "practice exam" for the new test.  Rather, we will have a 3-hour exam preparation course that will be available to assist our test takers in their preparation for the exam.

We are very excited to offer these new products in 2017 for certification.   You will be able to register for and take the exam as soon as February 2017.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks for the reply,  Ayana!  Does that mean, there is no way to take the test sooner or is it recommended that we wait for the new content and exam preparation course to become be available. Also, to confirm I was referring to the Marketo Certified Expert exam. Thanks!

You can certainly register for the exam right now. But please be aware it is not the "new" MCE exam being released in 2017.  You can go to www.webassessor.com/market and register for the exam today!

Good luck!

The new MCE exam and specializations are out now along with the training sessions. Details are here: Marketo Certified Expert and you can register for the three hour prep courses here: Training Catalog.  There will no longer be a practice exam, and I have heard that the new exam is quite different and more difficult.

I'm not sure where the more difficult came from but I would say it may be a bit different in areas. Previous exams tended to contain a bit of "what's on this menu" or "where do you go to...". The new exam is more concept in nature. "If you wanted to do xyz, how would you accomplish this?" type of thing.

I would still prep but I think if you have a base level of the concepts behind what Marketo does (engagements campaigns, segmentation, different types of programs, reporting, etc.), it should be fine.

If anything, it may be easier because you do not need to know what's on a menu in an area you never or rarely use.

The 3 hour training session was really helpful and the pre-recording has been great to re-visit. However I would also like to see a practice exam test that we can take.

Hi everyone,

If y'all went to Marketing Nation Summit, WELCOME BACK!  Hope you had a great learning experience and a ton of fun.  I sure did.  So... I took the exam at Summit and passed.  The things I did to prep:

1)  The 3 hour prep course with Don Mayberry (which took more like 2 hours).  He goes through it REALLY fast.  As part of this prep course, you get a study guide for concepts to learn (and where to find them) and there were about 30 practice questions at the end of this guide.  If I'm not mistaken, these were questions that were part of the beta exam but didn't make it to the official test.  The concepts and wording were VERY SIMILAR.  This was my bible for the exam and every concept was touched upon somewhere in the test.

2)  I did the intermediate track of University Day at Marketing Nation Summit.  Our instructor straight up told us concepts that would be on the exam and gave us scenarios of said concepts.  Super duper helpful.

3)  Took the time to really look at different reporting capabilities and when to use each.

I've been using Marketo for a little over a year and am an admin.  Or at least I was until recently when we hired a Marketo Champ who eats, sleeps, lives and breathes this stuff.

Hope this helps.
