New to Adobe Summit? First time attending? Wondering what to wear, which sessions you should prioritize, or how much ground you’ll actually cover in a day?

You’ve come to the right place 🙌

This is an open "No Stupid Questions" thread where you can ask anything about Summit - big or small - and get answers from members of the community who’ve been there before.

Pre-emptive Answer for what to pack and what to wear!

So, we all know that Summit is “Business Casual”, and that takes a lot of different forms (looking around at those interpretations), lol, so I will leave that to your best judgement and what you feel that means.

However, things to consider when deciding on your clothes.

Yes, Vegas is a desert, so it can be hot during the day (and since Summit is a month later than usual, that should mean it’s going to be warmer than previous years)… that said, being a desert, the heat of the day still won’t hold as well into the evenings, so I would plan on making sure you have something a little warmer for the evenings. Also, the AC will likely be cranked up in the conference itself, so if you have a tendency to get chilly, then you should plan on bringing a light (or heavy) weight sweater with you.

I like to have a universal cardigan, shawl, or just a light blanket that I can keep in my day bag that I can pull out as needed while I am watching sessions.

And when it comes to clothing… I like to choose a colour palette so that I mix and match outfits… It you are going to be there for 4 or 5 days (conference plus travel days), why have 4 or 5 pairs of pants, 4 or 5 shirts, 4 or 5 jackets, etc. Also, there’s a lot of “fun” events outside of the conference, you might want some “comfier” clothes for the evenings.

Shoes! And before anyone says “oi.. here comes a woman talking about shoes”…. remember, you are going to be doing a LOT of walking and standing around… your feet are going to feel it. I recommend bringing a few shoe options, so that if you have a blowout, or your shoes just don’t feel as comfortable in the desert environment, you will have options to choose from!

I recommend bringing good comfortable shoes… For the woman out there, I would recommend a good flat or only slightly heeled shoes for the day, and if you want to something flashier for the evenings, bring a pair of heels if you choose.

For everyone, you might want to still plan on a different shoe for day vs night… even the most comfortable shoes can start to hurt after a full day… switching to a different pair in the evening can help renew your feet. You might also want to bring a comfy sandal if you plan on going to the pool (and this can double as a slipper for around your hotel room)

And make sure you bring some band-aids or padding in case you develop any blisters… the only thing worse than blisters, is having to keep up all the walking an standing with those blisters. I recommend having a basic little first-aid kit… while there are pharmacies in the area, they will have marked up prices due this being a tourist area, so the more you can plan for, the better.

Aside from clothes… while there are generally water bottles given out by vendors, I would be sure and bring your own fillable water bottle. There will be water stands all around the conference where you can fill up (some tend to be colder than others… once you learn the good locations, unless you are desperate, you will know the best places to get the coldest water). You might also want to pack things like moisturizers and lip balm, due to the dry air.

And lastly… make sure you have lots of empty space in your bag when you come… there are so many vendors with swag, it will add up quick… and you will want to be able to pack it all. I usually come to Vegas with just my personal bag for the plane and my checked suitcase, but have a carry-on sized duffle or bag that fits inside my checked bag… so that coming home, I can fill my carry-on with swag, as well as “stuff” my checked luggage.

Happy Packing!

Great tips @Jennifer_Dungan -- thanks for sharing! Like you, I’m planning something similar with an extra bag in my carry-on. On the way there, I’ll just have my carry-on. On the way back, I’m planning to check it and use the extra bag as my carry-on for all the swag. That way, I only have to pay the checked bag fee on the return—saving $35-40 = extra Vegas spending money! 😊

Nice!  My checked luggage is included in my package… but yeah, if you have to pay for it extra, do whatever you can to save on costs.

Also… if you are coming from a “colder” location, if you can handle the extra layers going through the airport… if you bring a fold up bag on the plane with you, you can remove the extra clothing a stow in the bag once you are underway… then you can use it as a pillow for the flight  😉

What are your recommendations for using face masks in a large gathering?

I would say do what you feel comfortable with… I will probably have a few masks packed just in case I end up being near someone coughing…

Back at the 2019 Summit, before Covid, I picked up something nasty…  I had some extra vacation days after the conference, but I ended up just spending most of the time in my hotel room cause I felt so bad. The last few days I was basically only eating soup and I lost my voice completely. The pharmacist at Walgreens was awesome, and gave me some masks so that I could reduce spreading my germs on the trip home (I was definitely the definition of the person no one wanted to be next to on the plane, and I tried to keep as isolated as I could for their sakes)

Being sick in a hotel sucks! So definitely do what you need in order to stay healthy… any one that has a problem with you wearing a mask… that’s their problem, and not worthy of your consideration.

I booked late so need to find my own hotel. What is the exact address for the Summit so I can book something near by.

The conference is at the Palazzo/the Venetian.

If there's still rooms my advice is to check Treasure Island, it's right across the street, a lot of attendees stay there. And it's less expensive than staying at the Venetian.

The address for the Palazzo/Venetian, according to google is

3325 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89109, United States

I would love to use the Adobe Summit App; however, since I registered with my company email I can not access. Is there away for me to be able to use my personal adobe account to stay to date and connect? I was able to do this last year as I attended on my own.

Looking for advice as the App was super helpful for me to know when I could go get my badge, meals and meeting ppl. My first year attending I didn’t even know lunch was provided. Year two I learn about these things through the app.

Thanks for reaching out, @DianneE - I checked in with the Summit event team, and here’s what they had to say:

Attendees who can't log into the app with their company email should use the second login option to receive a login code.

The login issue they're experiencing has to do with the security measures their company has in place and receiving a sign in code with circumvent those issues.

The app officially launches tomorrow, so you may want to wait until then to try - but please follow up if you’re still unable to get in so we can help you 🙏

Same here, my corporate phone and SSO/oauth don’t allow me to log in.
I tried logging in with Google (Google blocked it), Facebook (received 1-time code but didn’t work), and Microsoft Outlook (code failed; trouble connecting to server).

Hi Everyone, This is my first in person Adobe Summit.  What are some good places to connect for a meeting (other than booths)?

Hey @Ken_Hansen! Welcome to the Summit hype train 😄

Have you already checked out the In-Person Meetups thread? Looks like a couple people are planning to hit some sessions together, and some others have dropped their info - there might be some good recommendations for meetup spots if you ask in there too!

Quick question
Do the sessions marked as ‘Full’ usually have spaces at last minute on the door, due to no-shows?

It really depends on the session! Some of the more popular ones might not, but a lot likely will have a couple seats.

But the way it works is that if you aren’t registered for a session, you can join an on-site waiting line. A lot of session will have people lining up outside the door. People who are pre registered for the session get to go in right away. But 2 minutes before a session starts, if there are still seats available, people that are waiting can take them.

So if you’ve registered for a session, make sure you’re there at least 3 minutes before the session starts to guarantee your seat.

If there’s a session you want to attend but couldn’t register, you can still try and get a seat the day of.

I risk this one to be the most stupid question ever asked but here I go.

We are sending a team of 3 to Summit. I’m not personally attending, but I have some people that wants to meet our team. Is there any clever idea or best practice so someone like me could schedule and conduct a meeting from outside?

Best imaginary answer: “Oh Yes JP! We have dedicated noise isolated boxes where everyone can meet over a table connected with video conference equipment that you can schedule and enjoy”…

As I imagine that is NOT available, how to do it?

The situation is that I have people I’m greatly familiar with and they are not close to my teammates that will be there next weeks.

Thanks!

There's a networking option in the summit app. People can message other attendees, so the people you know could message each other and coordinate a time to meet up.

There is also a meeting zone where they can meet up. I don't think they have a setup for you to call in on, but the attendees can probably do that with their own laptop, there is wifi available.

Thanks @MandyGeorge! Seems good enough! I will make sure one of my colleagues acts as host and I will try to connect that way.

Are hands-on labs suited only to existing users of the software being featured or are they ok for newcomers?

Hey @james.bregman - Hands-on labs include a skill-level indicator in the session catalog that should help you find something that will work for you. If you don’t have any experience with the solutions being featured, you’ll probably get the most out of solutions labeled General Audience and/or Beginner to Intermediate.

I’ve sorted the labs to show only Beginner and General Audience sessions, and you should be able to apply those tags automatically by clicking this link. If it doesn’t work for any reason, sort the session catalog by Session Type: Hands-on Lab and Technical Level: Beginner and General Audience.

You are of course welcome to attend other labs if they’re covering something you’re particularly interested in, but you should be advised that there will be an assumption of attendees technical level corresponding to the technical level of the listing, so you might not be able to get the full value of the lab.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions 🙌
